About Jake

My name is Jake Mouchawar. I’m an award-winning performer, director, puppeteer, and theater educator from Thousand Oaks, CA. I graduated magna cum laude with a BFA in Theatre Education & Performance from Emerson College in Boston, where I was awarded the 2022 Excellence in Theatre Education award. While in New England, I taught for some of the most prestigious youth organizations including Hill House Inc., University Club of Boston, Kingsley Montessori School, Weston High School, and more. I was also the K-8 Drama teacher for the Madeline English School in Everett, MA.

As an actor, some of my favorite places I’ve performed include the Pantages in LA, the Burren in Cambridge, and the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. My students have gone on to schools like Harvard, NYU-Tisch, Carnegie Mellon, Emerson College (go lions!), Boston University, and more. Students of mine have performed on Broadway, off-Broadway, amongst other places.

My approach to coaching is to use attainable techniques and exercises to unearth a student’s individual voice as a means of discovering character. Great actors are those who have a deep understanding of who they are in order to pretend to be people they are not. Viola Spolin, Uta Hagen, and Augusto Boal inspire my teaching philosophy.
